This has happened quite suddenly because of the recession. This situation creates a lot of opportunity in the .com arena. The big names are not really all taken up by big domainers. There are a lot of small investors who have bought some great names. A number of people think they can buy one great name and strike it rich fast. A few people have been able to do that; however, some have become tired of waiting for the turnaround. When this happens, they let the name go, then a more experienced domainer picks it right up.

A lot of people lost their jobs during the recession and couldn’t renew their domain names. For this reason, there is a land grab opportunity in the domain name business today. It is easy to fill out your portfolio with these abandoned names. That’s the way the cookie crumbles. Someone always loses, and someone always wins.

Currently the domain name industry is doing extremely well, with places like New Zealand and some areas of Asia expecting their boom time. New Zealand has proven to be a great place for domainers worldwide to collect lots of domain names in preparation for the coming boom.

If you buy a domain name for a low price then turn right around and sell it for a high price, it is called domain flipping. Regardless of the recession, this business continues to generate good earnings. A middle ground domain name has changed somewhat in price; however, you can still make good money with it.

I am warning everybody who is new to this game that it can be very addictive and a lot of fun. My experience has been that it is always an adventure to hunt for the best names. Finding truly great ones is tremendously satisfying. There’s lots of opportunity and lots of life in the domain name business.
